#Iran wants #oil prices to go as high as possible to help it financially recover. #Saudi-Arabia wants to play the long game and keep oil as low as possible to get developing nations homes for as long as they can. For the climate we should be supporting Iran. Sadly gas prices can directly impact US elections and we have few plans other than evs to stop using carbon fuels ourselves

Awesome in the overwhelmingly terrible way.

Can I take your order – and your data? The hidden reason retailers are replacing staff with AI bots
You might have seen viral videos of Wendy’s drive-thru customers in the United States ordering their fast food from the firm’s generative AI bot Wendy’s FreshAI. Most show a very human-like transaction punctuated with cries of amazement at how fast, accurate and polite the system is.

While the system and others like it are in their infancy, and some still rely heavily on human assistance, retailers are investing huge sums in AI to replace human workers.

Why the rush to automate? It might seem like it’s all about slashing the wage bill, and straight AI-for-human swaps are indeed happening in many roles.

But there is another force driving the tsunami of restructuring in retail. At stake is the hidden lifeblood of the 21st-century business: data.

Doctor Who's David Tennant slams anti-trans bigots: 'F**k off'
Tennant said his sentiment comes from simply “wanting people to be allowed to exist” and accepting that “ways of expressing gender identity [and] sexuality are more nuanced than they once were”, adding: “If that helps people to know who they are, say who they are, and communicate to the world who they are, it’s just common sense.”

Friendica built itself on filters, why it barely had a way to CW until recently.

My hottest (mild) #mastodon/#fediverse take:

If you're screaming at random people to use CWs and not even using the Filter feature, you are in fact the asshole.

Much easier to edit your environment to your tastes than to edit your environment (I think there's a greek guy who was doomed to do that)

The mute page is pretty in depth too, preferences > Filters

You can add YOUR OWN CWs to everything that matches, hide it, time limits, unlimited words, allow notifs not TL, the works.

in reply to Deb Zaccaro-Rojas

@Deb Zaccaro-Rojas Content warning. Its huge all over mastodon. You will get chastised for not putting one in on all sorts of things, from food to eye contact, it gets obnoxious at some point because that MIGHT be someone's trigger.

Hmmnnn...'content warning'...I rarely post anything I suspect would be triggery....cept movie teasers, and I post warnings for that..

for the record, if you have never watched Farscape: it is a show about an American astronaut who gets stranded in space with a bunch of aliens. this description is technically accurate but tells you nothing about the actual experience of watching the show.

if it helps any, please consider that the main characters are, in no particular order:

a jock who's very good at math and surprisingly good at feelings

an ex-space cop who combines the fighting-for-her-life aptitude of Ellen Ripley with the understanding-her-own-emotions aptitude of Seven of Nine

Space Javert

a big weird puppet friend with like 12 arms. you will want to hug him.

like, what if Yoda had 0 wisdom to impart and was just a horrible little bastard man who only wanted to do crimes

alien girl on Space Rumspringa except she's never going back because on her home planet feelings are illegal

Whenever I'd see those weird data points with my wrist-based heart rate while running I'd think to myself that it was either a sensor sampling issue or maybe some weird thing with acceleration. I never really studied it though. Turns out it's something called cadence lock. Maybe I'll go back to using a chest strap again for runs. #running

I imagine this also is part of the reason that my Garmin calls every run I’ve done “easy” in the power zone chart

wrist based HR is terrible. The wrist might be the worst place in the body to try and sample HR :D

If I was in a solid Blue state, I would be voting for a third party candidate that was pro-Gaza. I do not, I live in a swing state. Therefore I sadly must vote Biden to save the planet.
in reply to anubis2814

In the past, people used to organize vote trades for this kinda thing! Someone from a decided state would vote third party and the person in the swing state would vote Dems so people could feel like they voted their conscience but tried to keep the nation together.

I wish this would become more popular and known about again. It's a BS thing that we have to game the system like this, but it's good we can still work together!

in reply to anubis2814

Such an awful feeling! I love purple as a color, but damn do I hate being in a swing state!

Someday if i buy a house, i want to buy one of these and convert it into a charging station for my EV

You can already get tab groups with a Firefox plugin.

Yeaaahhhh...no, because of Donesk, Transnistria, etc. This is exactly why Putin's Russia runs election interference ops. I could call it The Donesk Gambit or I could call it the Vampire Gambit because it runs like this:

1) Meddle with elections to get in a pro-Russian government
2) The pro-Russian government declares itself a new nation-state
3) Invite Russia military in to protect the "nation's" Russians.

Just like Dracula, the objective is to not go in unless you're invited, and the objective is to install a government that will invite you.

whether or Putin is there is up to the Russians.

What we don't want is Putin leading Russian military ventures attacking other countries.

What we do want is Russian forces withdrawn from any foreign country where the government has not invited them in.

And (personally) I support making sure Ukraine has the necessary resources to repel the Russian invaders from the pre-2014 Ukrainian borders.

...and President Trump invited Russia to Washington, so NEVER forget THAT bit.

We plead with everybody do not be silent. You should not regret this in the future that you were silent at this genocide. When my grandparents were murdered in Auschwitz, when my whole family in Poland for my mother's side and in Hungary for my father's side were massacred the world was silent. Let us not make that same mistake again.
